West Virginia didn't see a lot of success last season in its special teams unit in both kickoffs and punting.

The Mountaineer kickoff unit produced just 22 touchbacks, which ranked 113th nationally, and a 30.14% touchback percentage (119th nationally).

WVU also saw eight kicks sail out of bounds.

The punting unit placed 126th nationally in total punt yards with 1,530 and landed 69th in yards per punt, averaging 42.50.

West Virginia's special teams unit is under new management as former University of Charleston coach Pat Kirkland leads the group.

Kirkland, who followed head coach Rich Rodriguez from Jacksonville State to WVU, is back in Morgantown for the first time since 2011 when he was the coordinator of recruiting, a position he held from 2009-11.
