A "drunk" woman has been arrested in Germany following a violent rampage aboard a Cyprus-bound aircraft.

The Jet2 service was compelled to make an emergency landing after the 41 year old launched attacks on fellow passengers and cabin crew.

During the flight, she delivered punches, kicks, insults and threats against others travelling on the Jet2 service.

Her "violent behaviour" ultimately forced the aircraft to touch down prematurely at Cologne Bonn Airport at 7.20pm (6.20pm UK time).

German officers, who described the British woman as being "heavily intoxicated", met the aircraft upon arrival.

Mathias Kämpfer, a spokesperson, said: "In consultation with Cologne police, she was taken to the station for further processing and placed in police custody to sober up."
