Samford University has purchased a 10,000-square-foot home on 14 acres in Costa Rica for its second international study center.

Finca de Samford - meaning “Samford Estate” - is situated on a mountain in the countryside near the capital of San Jose, with a national forest and a coffee plantation nearby.

The center will house up to 20 students with an on-site director, faculty member-in-residence and a full-time staff. A pilot group is expected to visit next spring, according to the school.

Samford acquired the property for an undisclosed amount this month, with the purchase price covered by the sale of property on the north side of campus.

University President Beck Taylor announced the news this week during his annual State of the University address.
