Evansville mother accused of punching child in the face while intoxicated

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- An Evansville mother has been charged with domestic battery and neglect of a dependent after a witness told police she had punched her child in the face repeatedly.

Officials with EPD say officers were dispatched to Bedford Avenue on Friday in reference to a child abuse in progress. A witness told police they witnessed a white female wearing a blue shirt punching a child in the face. The woman was later identified as Brandy Gahl.

Police go on to say when they informed Gahl of the allegations, she responded, "I would never put hands on my son." Officers say they noticed the smell of alcohol on Gahl's breath and was speaking with slurred words.
