JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, held a march on Saturday to raise awareness about violent crime in the capital city.

The march started at Freedom Corner and ended at Club Metro on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Stokes said the Jackson Police Department (JPD) has successfully cut crime in half, but it will take a collaborative effort from everyone in the community to curb crime further.

“We want to send the message throughout the community that stop the violence and increase the peace. We want people to feel safe to come out in their communities," the councilman said.

He said it's important for city leaders to be hands on within their community in order to invoke the change that's needed.
