COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTV) - The University of South Carolina said there was “ ” of an active shooter on campus Sunday evening, despite earlier reports.

The university sent out the following campus alerts at the noted times on Aug. 24:

6:34 p.m. -- Alert said there was a reported shooter

6:37 p.m. -- School said the supposed shooter was at the Thomas Cooper Library

6:47 p.m. -- Update said the supposed shooter was a male about six feet tall wearing black pants

7:10 p.m. -- University said there was “no evidence” of an active shooter

As of the 7:10 update, there had been no reports of injuries.

Despite the lack of evidence of a shooter, the university encouraged people on campus to stay sheltered until an all-clear was given.
