Pontiac has seen a rash of hit-and-runs this year — some of them fatal — and the city is stepping up traffic safety to try to stop them.

The city has had seven hit-and-runs in 2025 that have caused serious or fatal injuries. Two of the fatal crashes, on July 3 and Aug. 5, were within blocks of each other on Baldwin Avenue, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

In response, city officials have set up a three-way stop at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Virginia Street.

“We take vehicular safety and pedestrian safety very seriously in the city and continue to do everything possible to improve the safety of that corridor in particular, but also other corridors in the city as well,” said Mayor Tim Greimel.
