Good news for the summer swimmers: the beach at Fairfax State Recreation Area (SRA) reopened on August 22, after being closed due to high water levels at Lake Monroe.

But not all beachgoers will be so lucky. The beach at Paynetown SRA will remain closed for the rest of the year due to plumbing damage at the beach house — repairs won't be completed before the season ends.

Fishing piers at both Paynetown and Cutright SRAs are still off-limits until water levels drop further. As of August 20, the lake sits at 542.34 feet, more than four feet above normal pool and they can only be opened once the water levels drop below 541 feet.
