OLD TOWN, Maine —

A few weeks after a fugitive water monitor named Goose was recaptured in central Massachusetts, another exotic lizard is on the loose -- this time in Maine.

Police in Old Town, Maine, say the lizard was spotted in the area of Hillside Avenue Sunday evening, WCVB sister station WMTW reported. Latest Forecast

Police say they originally thought it was a monitor lizard, similar to Goose, but after hearing from people in town, they now believe it is a tegu .

Tegu lizards generally have sharp teeth and claws and very strong jaws. They are native to Central and South America but are kept as pets and can grow to be 3 to 4 feet long.

They are not generally aggressive, but can lash out if they feel threatened.
