Hope for North and South London’s answer to the Elizabeth line may not be totally lost, with space ear-marked for Crossrail 2 infrastructure as part of the British Library’s £1.1 million extension. Transport for London’s Crossrail 2 project, which has been paused since 2020, would improve access to and from London across the wider South East region.

First proposed in 2013, the project has seen plenty of set-backs, but plans from 2015 suggest it would go from Epsom in the south to Broxbourne to the north, going via Dalston, Angel, Clapham Junction and Wimbledon. However, the project was halted in 2020 as part of the Transport for London funding agreement with the government.
