KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Police Department announced that it it will be adding three new horses to the department’s mounted patrol until.

KPD started the mounted patrol earlier this year and became fully operational in late May with two horses and three officers receiving training.

The mounted offices have been used throughout the city and KPD said it’s giving officers a new point of view.

Scott Erland with KPD said the three new horses arrived in Knoxville in late July and are already in training.

The Downtown Knoxville Alliance and KPD are inviting the community to help name the new horses.

Erland said that all three horses were purchased by the Downtown Knoxville Alliance to expand KPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit and increase its presence in the Downtown & Old City areas,
