KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A sheriff’s deputy in the Midlands was recently fired after reportedly admitting to drinking before getting behind the wheel of a county car.

Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan told WIS that the deputy, Jorien Watson, was recently terminated. The sheriff added that an investigation began after the department was notified of Watson’s alleged behavior.

Boan said Watson later admitted to drinking off duty before going back to work and driving a county car. The sheriff also said empty cans were discovered in a locked vault in the back of Watson’s patrol car.

Boan told WIS that the sheriff’s office also filed to have Watson’s state certification revoked, but was told the reason for termination did not fall under a misconduct statute.
