OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - One item up for discussion in this year’s Omaha city budget has to do with three words.

A couple of city councilmembers strongly believe those words could mean millions of dollars to the city.

The term “diversity, equity, and inclusion” appears twice in the close to 500 pages that make up the 2026 city budget.

Councilmembers Aimee Melton and Council Vice President Brinker Harding want to eliminate those three words from the budget.

There are some who think the city should go even further.

“DEI references should be removed from everything that the city does that was declared by an executive order of the President of the United States as illegal,” said Larry Store, an Omaha resident.
