SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Police Department organized a community event in the North End as part of the National Night Out initiative.
National Night Out is a nationwide initiative designed to promote community building and partnerships between residents and police.
The event in Springfield's North End is part of a series of similar gatherings held throughout the city to engage local communities. "It's a great community event. It's great for police to come out and interact with the citizens and residents of this area of the city and show them we are members of this community as well," said David Kane, Springfield Deputy Chief of Police.
