The city of Decatur has elected Kent Lawrence as its new mayor following the recent municipal elections. The former Decatur businessman beat former District 1 councilman Billy Jackson by more than 1,300 votes.
Lawrence has a strong background in local governance, serving six years on the Board of Zoning and Adjustments and 12 years on the Planning Commission, including nine years as chairman. He tells WAAY 31, his main goal as mayor is to provide leadership to the city.
“The community came together today and voted for Decatur. They voted yes to progress, unity, and a brighter future for Decatur,” said Lawrence.
