Maryland’s statewide test scores improved for a third straight year, with English language arts proficiency reaching 50.8% and mathematics rising to 26.5% on the 2024-25 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP), according to results released by the Maryland State Department of Education.
Since the 2021-22 school year, overall performance has climbed 5.5 percentage points, with English language arts (ELA) performance recovering more swiftly than math.
“Maryland students are making progress. For the third year in a row, we have seen performance increases,” State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carey M. Wright said, pointing to continued investments in teacher resources, professional learning and student support systems.
