SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A middle school student in Springfield is facing disciplinary action after bringing a loaded gun to school.

We’re told the student did not make any threats and was fully cooperative. The district states that law enforcement will determine the discipline the student will face, which could include criminal charges. Administrators say reporting activity like this is crucial to campus safety.

“It’s maybe a week, not even a week, you already got a person bringing a gun to the school. That’s sad,” said Candy West.

She has a 6th grader at Pipkin Middle School.

“She might think she’s safe. But I’m a parent and I don’t know. It’s scary for me,” she said.

West says she went through a similar situation when she was a child.
