NORCROSS, Ga. — A little more than a week after an elementary school student was arrested after allegedly firing a gun into a toilet at a Gwinnett County school, his mother was arrested in connection to the case on Monday.

An arrest warrant obtained by 11Alive claim that the student's mother knowingly allowed her 9mm handgun to be stored in a broken lock box in her closet, which the warrant states she was aware of.

The mother was arrested on misdemeanor reckless conduct charges, according to the warrant.

The warrant also said that the mother said she routinely checks her sons' backpacks before school, but did not search her son's backpack on Aug. 14, the day the gun was fired in the Meadowcreek Elementary School bathroom.
