The very last things to go in an “everything must go” sale at David’s Furniture Gallery will likely be store owner David Hajj’s suit and tie.

Hajj, who is retiring after 31 years of selling furniture, including the last nine at the 6,000-square-foot store in downtown Welland, will be travelling — perhaps around the world.

“See the world; see what’s going on,” he said

And unless he is invited to the captain’s table on a cruise, he doesn’t intend to wear his work uniform on a regular basis.

Hajj doesn’t think 61 is too young to retire.

Indeed, he regards his move to Welland after selling four furniture stores in Ontario as the first step toward retirement: “my semi-retirement,” he said.
