SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Revenue from visitors to South Dakota's largest city is steady, but some economic challenges may lie ahead for future tourism.
Experience Sioux Falls (ESF), a group contracted by the city that promotes tourism and events in Sioux Falls, reported to the City Council Tuesday that for a second year, the southeastern part of the state outpaced the Black Hills in tourism.
In their presentation, ESF reported data measuring the activity of visitors from over a distance of 50 miles away from the city. The data compiles every purchase made in the city by a visitor, according to data from ESF.
Teri Schmidt, the director of Experience Sioux Falls, reminded the council the visitor industry is "not just about hotels." ESF is mostly funded by a hotel tax of $2 per room tha
