SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The Shreveport City Council has unanimously passed a resolution supporting efforts by the Louisiana Supreme Court and others to simplify the process for getting a protective order.

The resolution was written by Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor, Councilman Jim Taliaferro, and Councilman Grayson Boucher. The resolution was adopted Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The council says as things stand now, victims of domestic abuse have to fill out a 17-page form to get legal protection. Some city leaders, law enforcement officials, and community advocates have long voiced concerns that the process creates an unnecessary barrier to victims seeking help.
