WALKER — A 59-year-old Cass Lake woman has been pronounced dead after the pontoon she was operating crashed into the shore of Leech Lake on Tuesday afternoon in Walker.

According to a release from Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk, at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the sheriff's office received reports of a boat crashing into the rocks and shoreline on the south shore of Leech Lake, near the Walker City Park.

Deputies and responders arrived and found a 2016 Regency Tri-toon crashed on the shore. A 59-year-old Cass Lake woman was found unresponsive in the watercraft, the release said.

The woman was removed from the boat and medical aid was immediately rendered. Lifesaving efforts continued while she was transported to the Walker airport where she was pronounced dead, the release said.
