NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Surveillance footage obtained by 12 News shows the moments a North Kingstown police officer was seriously hurt last month during an undercover sting operation.

The video from Rhode Island State Police shows what happened when Detective J. Dylan Navakauskas confronted Alec Perry, a suspect in a sexual exploitation case.

Perry, 30, of Pawtucket, was at a park-and-ride in North Kingstown, allegedly thinking he was going to be meeting a 13-year-old girl, according to police.

The surveillance footage shows officers in two unmarked vehicles attempting to block in Perry's car.

When the officers got out to apprehend Perry, police said he accelerated and ran over Navakauskas, who was standing in front of the vehicle.
