WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and education officials in the nation's capital are celebrating good grades for District schools on Thursday.

DCPS released an announcement citing several studies that show an uptick in math and reading scores among students.

According to the presentation, ELA and Math proficiency rates rose by 3.6 percentage points in 2025.

In addition, according to the National Assessment of Education Progress findings, some grades showed improved results, while the national average declined overall.

Regionally, D.C. public schools' enrollment has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, in contrast to Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland and Fairfax and Loudoun counties in Virginia.
