LIPSCOMB, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The attorney for three sisters seen in a viral video of a confrontation with Lipscomb police is pushing back against the city’s version of events, accusing officials of lacking transparency and pledging to file a lawsuit.
The video shows 19-year-old Shaquiria Pitts, 18-year-old Shamiah Peterson and their 14-year-old sister in a tense encounter with Lipscomb police officers. Their attorney, Johnathan Austin, argues the recording speaks for itself.
“All you have to do is look at the video. There’s nothing else that needs to be said,” Austin said.
Austin says his clients were wrongfully arrested, subjected to excessive force and had their rights violated. He says he intends to sue the city for excessive force, unlawful arrest, and civil rights violations,
