NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- People near and far helped to raise money for cancer research Saturday.
The fifteenth annual "Closer to Free" ride donates 100 percent of the money raised to Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Yale Cancer Center.
"It's a great event," Rob Spino, a cyclist, said. "It's kind of heartwarming to see how many people come out and support such a cause."
About 2,000 people interacted with the event, whether this was in-person riding, or virtually across the world.
"Whether it's people that are still with us, people that have passed, it's really nice to see the amount of people that come out and support to raise money for such a good cause," Spino said.
