WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Those of a common background came together to celebrate their heritage on Saturday.

Waterbury's Puerto Rican Festival brought the community together, highlighting their culture.

"All the Puerto Ricans come together to celebrate," Elizabeth Garcia of Waterbury said. "We're not on the island but we're here and we want to celebrate everybody else that would love to be on the island but we can't."

The Coalition of Puerto Rican Parades and Festivals is hosting their next celebration on Sunday, Sept. 21 in Hartford.

"It's very heartwarming, seeing all the Puerto Ricans together," Garcia said.
