The Manitoba government is teaming up with Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) to place officers inside the Health Sciences Centre (HSC) Winnipeg emergency department around the clock.

Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara said the move is meant to protect patients and front-line staff.

The plan calls for two uniformed officers to be stationed at HSC 24-7, along with five new weapon-detection scanners at the hospital’s main entrances. Justice Minister Matt Wiebe said the officers will work alongside security guards and institutional safety officers to strengthen hospital security.
