Monmouth County’s governing body passed a resolution in June closing county offices on Sept. 11 and calling on others to do the same despite it not being a state holiday.
This is the third year since 2023 that Monmouth County has declared Sept. 11 a county holiday to memorialize the 2001 terrorist attacks .
“We all took the pledge to never forget the terrible events of September 11, 2001,” Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said in a statement. “My fellow Commissioners and I have declared September 11 a County Day of Remembrance, during which all County offices will be closed, allowing our employees the opportunity to reflect on the tragedy and its lasting impact.”
