The Victorian Labor government is not considering utilising a pepper spray trial amid major concerns from the Opposition over the state’s crime rate.

The Northern Territory this month began a 12-month trial allowing the public to buy, carry and use OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) spray - commonly known as pepper spray - to protect themselves.

Sky News reporter Georgie Dickerson asked the Premier on Wednesday if Victoria would look at undertaking its own pepper spray trial.

Ms Allan said this was not being considered.

“The work that we've done just over the past few months in terms of giving police additional knife search powers, introducing Australia's first machete ban that not only has seen the getting machetes off the street, it's also getting them off the shelves,” Ms Allan responded.
