LORAIN, Ohio — A new ordinance introduced at last week’s Lorain City Council meeting aims to increase parental accountability for minors who break the law or violate the city’s curfew.
The measure, which City Council unanimously voted to send to the police, fire and legislative committee for further review, would presume parents are aware if their child is out past curfew. Parents could face charges if the child is caught committing a crime.
“If you’re letting your kids run out, especially past curfew, and they’re committing a crime with a firearm – as a parent, you’re going to be charged if council passes that ordinance,” Mayor Jack Bradley said.
Bradley said he believes council members want to hear public input before moving forward, a step he supports.
