SHREVEPORT, La. -- The long-idle Libbey Glass plant in Shreveport has a new future ahead, thanks to a local partnership that officially acquired the property this week.

The 850,000-square-foot facility, located off I-20 at Jewella Avenue, ceased production in 2020 during the pandemic and has sat vacant ever since. Now, the Northern Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP) says it has secured the site with plans to transform it into a hub for advanced manufacturing.

Justyn Dixon, president of NLEP, said the acquisition was two years in the making. The effort was made possible with the help of a state grant facilitated by Senator Thomas Pressly.
