TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The first step in student success is showing up, but almost one-third of Arizona students were chronically absent from school last year, according to data from AZ School Report Card.
In Marana, those numbers aren’t much better – with almost thirty percent of all students missing school.
That’s why Teresa Anthofer, an English teacher at Marana High School is tailoring her lessons to make English class relevant to every student. She said student needs can vary because teenagers are dealing with a lot these days.
“Pressures and challenges that come from social media,” said Anthofer, giving an example. “We also have a lot of students that are working full time, and we have students that are dealing with a lot of pressures from family situations.”
