TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The City of Tucson opened the very first t rauma recovery center in southern Arizona to support victims of violent crime.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, Pima County’s violent crime rates are higher than both the state and national averages, making this something the county deemed necessary.

The new trauma recovery center by CODAC - a local nonprofit - soft launched in June, welcoming some patients and on Wednesday, they held their grand opening.

In June, 18-year-old Brynn Clevenger suffered through a violent crime that left her traumatized.

“I was really sad, I was depressed I was going through anxiety, I was having nightmares, I was feeling all of these emotions, I didn’t want to get up, I slept all the time,” said Clevenger.
