SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - It has been 24 years since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States that took the lives of nearly three thousand people.

Starting at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, dozens of people began the climb up and down the stairs of Plaster Stadium at Missouri State University to remember and honor those who lost their lives that morning and in the 20-year War on Terror that followed.

A stair climb isn’t a random choice when it comes to remembering the day. Twenty-four years ago, first responders raced up the stairs of the towers of the World Trade Center to help as many people as they could.
