SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A youth football coach is facing charges in connection with a player injury during a football practice at Old National Park, according to the South Fulton Police Department.

City officials said the child was airlifted to the hospital for treatment after the injury on Monday night. The child has since been released from the hospital.

According to police, the football coach, Jonathan Richard Sagers, is charged with cruelty to children in the first degree and battery.

Warrants state Sagers grabbed the 12-year-old child by the shoulder pads with both hands, lifting him off the ground before slamming him onto the ground.
