ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Polk County sheriff’s deputy was injured in a crash Thursday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff said the deputy was traveling east on Highway 278 around 7 a.m. Thursday when another car traveled “across the path” of his vehicle.

The deputy swerved to avoid the car, hit a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 278 and Highway 27 and hit a different car before stopping on an embankment.

The car that allegedly turned into the path of the deputy’s vehicle drove away from the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy was taken to the hospital with injuries. No other drivers were injured.

Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at 770-749-2901.
