TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - After three years, a vacant spot in the Oro Valley Marketplace will be filled by The Picklr, an indoor pickleball facility.
The shopping center had been struggling with high turnover rates and vacancies for years, according to Paul Melcher, Oro Valley’s Community and Economic Development Director.
13 News counted six vacant lots while driving through the Oro Valley Marketplace, which opened in late 2008. Melcher said the original developer forecasted nearly 100,000 people living in the area, and built the property to reflect that.
Today, the population of Oro Valley is just under 60,000. Melcher said this initial population estimation is what caused a lot of businesses to go under in the shopping center.
