VALPARAISO — A civil war veteran’s ghostly voice speaks on a recorder. A white blob moves across the bar on a security camera. A ghost dog … rubs against your leg?

“Valpo can be pretty spooky!” said Cameron Sutter, one of a few dozen attendees of a haunted pub crawl Saturday night.

Tour guide Denise Gundelach uses local pubs and bars as guideposts along a trail that encompasses the history of the city, its buildings and the figures from the past who may or may not still be wandering alongside in a spectral realm.
