FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A West Florence High School teaching assistant is facing multiple charges after authorities say he sprayed a substance multiple times that sickened students, the Florence County Sheriff's Office said.

Alexander Paul Robertson Lewis obtained a substance imitating a fecal odor and deployed it between Aug. 25 and Friday, forcing several children to obtain medical attention for respiratory issues and causing $55,000 worth of damage to the school's air conditioning system.

Lewis, 32, is charged with disturbing schools and malicious injury to property of more than $10,000.
