BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Civil Air Patrol volunteers in North Dakota are credited with saving three lives last year. Nationwide, the group logged 34 saves. This weekend, pilots gathered in Moorhead for advanced all-weather training to make sure they’re ready for the next emergency.

The training took place Saturday, Sept. 20, at Moorhead Municipal Airport. Fourteen pilots from across the state joined the flight clinic, which happens twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall.

The day’s low clouds and reduced visibility created real-life conditions for instrument flight rules practice. “It ended up being the perfect weather for that,” said Maj. Jeffrey Slocum, one of the pilots who trained.
