KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Several agencies across East Tennessee are hosting car seat checks as Child Passenger Safety Week looms.

Child Passenger Safety Week starts Sept. 21 and runs though Sept. 27 this year. The national campaign is aimed at emphasizing safety for kids in cars. That means making sure children are in the right car seats and those seats are installed correctly.

The Knoxville Police Department hosts child safety seat checkpoints on the second Saturday and fourth Tuesday of each month. The department holds them at 917 E. Fifth Ave.

Those interested in the free check are asked to make an appointment , however.
