Blake “Woody” Woodward has painted more than a mural in his hometown of Hebron. He has just created a welcome home invitation to Region residents who’ve left Northwest Indiana with promises to someday give back to their community.

Too many people who were born and raised here don’t return to share their skills, talents or professional acumen to enhance this corner of the state. For whatever reason, they drift away and don’t look back. Sometimes for decades, sometimes for good.

Not Woodward. The 2012 Hebron High School graduate returns to his town every summer from his home in Kansas City, Missouri. This summer, he painted a mural at the corner of Route 231 and Main Street. It’s titled “Hebron Spirit.”
