AMES — News of a massive shake-up in the Big 12 broke just before Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell's Tuesday press conference.

Gundy, who was in his 21st season as Oklahoma State's head coach, was fired Tuesday afternoon. OSU is 1-2 this season and coming off a 3-9 season in 2024 without a conference win.

Campbell was asked for his reaction to the news.

"We're just in such a crazy time," Campbell said. "It's obviously disappointing. You think the world of what (Gundy) has been about, obviously, what he did at Oklahoma State was exceptional and will probably be really hard to replicate.
