Despite concern from some residents about a change in companies overseeing the work, Norfolk council has approved hiring an outside project manager to fix the Forestry Farm gas well, which has been pumping massive amounts of hydrogen sulfide and methane into the air and water for the past decade.
The old, abandoned gas well is located on Norfolk County property in Silver Hill, north of MacDowell Road West, in a wooded area off Forestry Farm Road.
