Octopus Energy is giving away free handouts to UK households that will slash £300 off their energy bills.

As part of its Octo Assist fund, the energy supplier is offering free electric blankets to eligible customers.

The fund is worth £30 million and aims to help those that most need it through the cold winter months.

Electric blankets can save the average home £300 on their energy bills, according to Octopus Energy, as you won't need to heat the entire home while using them.

Heating an entire home can cost around £4 daily, while an energy-efficient electric blanket can heat a person for just 2-4p per hour, according to the supplier.
