A Gresham High School football player remains in medical care after suffering an in-game injury last Friday which required emergency surgery.

Gresham junior Tucker Santillanes will be moving from an intensive care unit to an inpatient rehabilitation program, according to a social media post made by his father, Tom Santillanes. Tucker Santillanes suffered a spinal injury during a football game last week against David Douglas.

He’ll likely be moved on Thursday or Friday when he is cleared from the intensive care unit, his father said.

“We continue to see small wins. Progress is slow, but steady—Tucker is being challenged, and he’s rising to meet those challenges with strength and determination,” Tom Santillanes wrote on Facebook.
