Oregon Army National Guard Physician Assistant Major Tommy Vu set a new world record for most chest-to-ground pushups, notching an eye-popping 1,721 repetitions in one hour at West Coast Strength gym in West Salem on Saturday.

Vu blew past the previous record of 1,530 repetitions set earlier this year to recapture his title and claim his sixth world record.

“My goal was around 1,600, but I like to give myself a bit of headspace,” Vu said in a news release from the Oregon National Guard .

“I’ve got a really strong will, and I just don’t know how to quit,” he added.

The 38-year-old used a metronome set to 2.1 seconds per repetition, according to the release, helping set the pace over the grueling hourlong session.

“I encourage everybody to pick out small goals in their life,” he said
