A 15-year-old boy has died after his mother struck him on the head with a brick while he was trying to stop a fight between his parents in Balaka.

Police have arrested 38-year-old Alefa Katema on suspicion of assaulting her son, Tony Chiutira.

According to Balaka district police spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha, the family had reportedly been involved in ongoing domestic disputes. On the night of September 16, Tony reprimanded his mother for starting another argument.

“This angered the mother, and she took a brick and hit her son on the head,” said M’bumpha.

Tony died while receiving treatment at Balaka Hospital, where he had been taken by his father.

Alefa Katema will appear before court soon.
