Man cleared of murdering Jill Dando is charged with rape View Image

The man cleared of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando has been charged with rape. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man following an investigation by detectives.

The Met has charged Barry George, 65, of County Cork, Republic of Ireland, in connection with o ne count of rape and t wo counts of indecent assault. It is alleged that a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on two separate occasions in 1987. The woman is now in her 50s.
